NZ Avalanche Advisory Competition.

NZ Avalanche Advisory Competition.

Post observations & win gear!

About the competition:

The New Zealand Avalanche Advisory (NZAA) has launched its annual public observations competition, encouraging backcountry users to share what they see on their alpine adventures. Users who share a backcountry snow or avalanche observation on avalanche.net.nz will enter a draw to win a $1,500 voucher for an NZ outdoor retailer of the winner’s choice.

Observations help the entire alpine community – they can be freely accessed by the public planning on avalanche.net.nz when planning backcountry alpine trips, and they are actively used by the avalanche advisory forecasters.

Get involved – if you’re heading into the backcountry, share what you see, give back to the community, and be in to win an epic prize.

How to enter:

1. Check the avalanche forecast before heading into the backcountry

2. Submit a snow or avalanche observation with a photo using our Public Observation tool on avalanche.net.nz

Don’t know the technical lingo? No worries – observations don’t need to be technical.

Any info or photos (with their specific location) can help our avalanche forecasters and the alpine community.

You’ll be entered in the draw every time you submit an observation – so the more you share, the more likely you are to win! We’ll also be sharing public observations on our social channels all season.

Competition ends at midnight on 30 November 2024 NZST.

Terms & Conditions:

– Genuine NZ observations from this season only. Your observation must include a photo from the time and location of your observation.

– You must provide your contact details in your entry so we can contact you.

– Any observations promoting reckless or dangerous activity are ineligible.

– Entrants must be at least 18 yrs and permanently live in NZ.

– Competition ends at midnight on 30 November 2024 NZST.

– 1 winner will be selected on 1 December 2024.

– The prize is non-transferable and non-refundable.

– Observation photos may be shared on NZAA social channels or used by NZ Mountain Safety Council.

Remember to make smart decisions about your terrain and travel choices based on the avalanche forecast and your observations of the conditions.
