Locals Stoked on Phenomenal Conditions at Treble Cone
29th June 2009

Wanaka, New Zealand - JUNE 27th, 2009 Wanaka was as busy at 7:00 AM this morning. Locals and those hailing from afar scrambled to get coffees, skis, snowboards and friends packed into their vehicles. The train of cars snaked their way around the beautiful lake side and through the cloud layer to get up to Treble Cones Opening Day. Locals have been watching the snow accumulate from across Lake Wanaka, but everyone was shocked at just how phenomenal the conditions were for this years opening. It was great really good snow, brilliant, really dry loose powder on the side of the pipes and the Matukituki shoots, legs are now burning. Ive never seen it this good ever on opening" said Hetty Van Hale of Wanaka. The car park started to fill up around 8:00AM as locals eagerly joined the jovial queue. Jokes were thrown around like snowballs as everyone anticipated their first runs for the season. Some jumped on the closest available terrain locking in their initial turns on Main Street. Others took off to the Saddle to find all the terrain blanketed with a meter of snow and all major runs groomed out perfectly. There was also plenty of use on Treble Cones new free learners lifts and the new management was very happy to see its success.
Music, delicious food and drink kept spirits high as everyone circulated around the mountain throughout the day. Treble Cone once again demonstrated that they are a true alpine resort offering a variety of terrain and optimal experiences for one and all.
With the South Islands largest vertical descent, the most terrain and longest groomed trails, Treble Cone is New Zealands premier alpine resort. 360 degree views of the snow capped Southern Alps, the brilliant blue Lake Wanaka and the rugged Central Otago landscape make this one of the most memorable views of any alpine resort. Situated on the edge of Lake Wanaka, Treble Cone has established itself as a mecca for all snow enthusiasts both locally and abroad. To find out more please visit treblecone.com.
