McGlinn Podiums Twice at Silver Star

17th March 2010

Alexandra McGlinn of the New Zealand National Ski Team has capped off an intense three weeks of racing in Wyoming, Colorado and British Columbia with two podium results at Silver Star Mountain Resort, winning the Slalom and finishing second in the Super G event at the FIS Miele Cup.

Her win in the slalom by a massive 2.81 seconds was particularly pleasing said McGlinn.

I have not finished a slalom since August last year at Treble Cone.

Her win follows a run of eight slaloms that she did not finish in this particularly difficult technical discipline.

The good news is that the last three slaloms I have managed to finish I have won she said.

The latest win carried 52.30 ranking points and will improve her world rankings in the next list to be released shortly.

Slalom is my weakest discipline so it is really good to have put together two solid runs in the very difficult soft snow conditions, she said after the race.

Earlier in the week McGlinn recorded a second place result in the super G event finishing behind Canadas Tatum Monod.

Over the previous two weeks leading up to the Silver Star event McGlinn was in Colorado competing in the NorAm Cup speed events at Aspen where she recorded two personal best results in the Super G and Downhill events which will improve her world rankings.

Her downhill results were the most satisfying as she only competed in her first down hill in early February at the World Junior Ski Championships in the Mont Blanc region of France. McGlinn recorded a 131 point result in France to take her to be the second ranked New Zealander behind 2010 Olympian, Mitchey Greig. McGlinns 86 point result at Aspen will elevate her to the top downhill ranking when the next FIS lists are released on March 18.

McGlinn is now entering a short training block before competing in the Canadian National Championships at Nakiska, Alberta commencing on 20 March.
