Jossi has day of his life - Gold in Pipe and top qualifier in Slopestyle
17th January 2010
Jossi Wells had one of the best days of his career today at Snowbasin, Utah. He took out Gold in the Dew tour Superpipe then went straight to the slopestyle course and won the qualifying heats.
Jossi kicked off the day with a run identical to his Breckenridge halfpipe run, with a little kicker at the end. 900 to right 900 to double flip to right 720 to switch 720 shifty to alley oop flatspin 540. That run was enough to pique the judges interest into giving him a first place finish. Simon Dumont who was charging hard this morning took amplitude to new heights (get it?). Massive 900 to right 900 to double flip to alley oop 720 to Switch 1080 (720 in his 2nd run). The judges must not have liked the 5-hit run and gave Dumont the 2nd place finish. Pete Olenick, who took a big spill in practice, dropped bombs to snag 3rd. Petes new alley oop double flip 900 to 900 to right 900 to 1080 to switch alley oop 540 was enough to outlast all the pipe riders that followed.

Jossi, Simon Dumont and Peter Olenick on the podium
Jossi wasn't done yet after pipe finals he had to make his way to the slopestyle course and compete in the prelims for tomorrows finals and guess what, yeah he won....
Jossis rail trickery, right 900 to switch 900 to double cork 1260 was too much for the slope guys to handle. Alexis Godbout, who spun like a top took 2nd qualifying place. Right 900 to switch 1080 to switch 1080, with an 810 off the bottom rail was the run that did it for Alexis. Reigning X Games gold medalist TJ Schiller snagged the 3rd place qualifying spot. Right 900 to switch 1080 to switch double flip 900 was enough to keep him in that third spot.
The top nine competitors moved through to tomorrows final where they will compete with 3 pre-qualified riders, Andreas Htveit, Tom Wallisch and Sammy Carlson, in a battle royale.

A giant spiky baseball mitt specifically aligned to snaffle Pacific storms and leave their clouds eviscerated like white plastic bags flapping on a clothes line. Two-metre overnight dumps? It’s happened more than once. No wonder Mt Hutt is often the first ski resort in Australasia to open.
