Hall takes gold at first race of Northern season

18th December 2009

Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA (15 December 2009) - Otago ski racer Adam Hall began his Northern Hemisphere season atop the podium at the (International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing North American Cup held at Copper Mountain in Colorado today.

Halls time of 1min 33sec was a full four seconds ahead of second place skier Toby Kane (Australia). Brad Washburn (USA) placed third.  All of the top North American skiers as well as several European skiers were present.
Hall was leader in both runs of the two run competition.

According to John Turnbull, performance manager for the Winter Performance Programme (WPP), Hall fulfilled both his and coach Hiro Taniguchis expectations and his performance is a great indicator of his build up to the Paralympics

To win so convincingly was great, said Turnbull.
While the weather was perfect conditions were tough with a soft course due to all of the fresh snow.
Hall races again on Thursday and Friday at Winter Park, Colorado in Super G and Super Combined. He is then off to Europe where he has two world cup stops.
Libby Blackley, Adaptive Snow Sports Manager, Snow Sports New Zealand said it was a well-deserved result for Hall.
Adam has proven yet again that he is at the top of his sport and on-form going into the Paralympics in Canada, said Blackley.
Hall will race against the worlds very best in the IPC World Cup finals in Canada next week. If Hall wins gold in slalom he will move to number one in the world rankings for the first time.
Hall is a member of the Adaptive Snow Sports National Team and is trained by the Winter Performance Programme under Coach Hiro Taniguchi.  Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand is a member of Snow Sports New Zealand (SSNZ), the official governing body and National Sports Organisation representing all snow sports in New Zealand.
