Does anyone share my thoughts that rocker skis turn very fat skis into over turny carvers! Not that I don't like them its just that they dumb down the ride. Give me your thoughts you little grommets.

Hey Lex
Rocker skis have revolutionized off piste skiing, yeah they shorten the effective edge on piste but the benefits off piste out weigh that by miles. maybe you just need to get longer skis!!

In reply to Lex... I don't agree with your statement to the point where I would say the complete opposite. I will concede that Rocker is not for everyone and that it will never replace traditional camber but it is a technology that is here to stay. In a very short period of time the development of Rocker has come a long way and its future application will benefit a much wider group of skiers. It is great that skiing has a technology that is developed by skiers and is not borrowed from Snowboarding. Performance wise Rocker offers the skier so much versatility and they are only as "turny" as you want them to be. For example you can take a K2 Hellbent (150/122/141) to the top of a heli run, to you favorite inbounds stash, to spring corn/slush or to early morning groomers and have fun in all those conditions... you cant do that on an "over turny carver". Traditionalists will say that fat skis in general "dumb down the ride" Rocker is just the next evolution. I don't think Rocker is the be all and end all for the future of our sport but it will play a big part.

yes i do believe you are correct Mrbigchops skiing has not taken the technology of "rocker" from snowboarding but rather skiiers have taken the "rocker" technology which has previously been used in surfboard shapes. Yes i agree that rocker is not for everyone
however when some of the most influencial skiiers of all time like
cj johnson build the concept of rocker into there 4frnt crj 2010 pro model skis which will be released into nzealand this year ski shapes start to get exciting. Thats the beauty of 4frnt there is a shape for everyone, except your momma who is probally looking for a pair of salamon snow blades.

Thanks for your unbiased feedback,
If they make skiing powder so easy then everyone will be tracking out the hill quicker and that is bad for all of us. I say ban them.......cant wait to try some though!

Don't believe the hype.
until you can manage a double daffy on a pair of 216cm race stock skis, don't even talk to me about "progress".

why not go for a bit of both... was lucky enought to ski on the Rossi RC112 pros this season in BC and loved them; they got a traditional camber under foot and in the tail with an early rise rocker tip. They arnt a bent noodle, more like a bit of 4'2' with the tip turned up.. Fun ski.

i have heard that before.
people thought "parabolics" were never gonna take on and didnt take any skill to ski and all that.
I am for them.
I am gonna put a HUGE reverse camber on my sit ski this year. ;-)

Lex -
Just finished up a winter in Japan with the Black Diamond Megawatt the ski of choice for fresh days. I can honestly say that this zero camber, rockered tip fatty is the most fun pair of skis I have ever clicked into. Certainly not a dumbed down ride. I don't feel that the rocker makes them too turny, although I was suprised at how easily they do turn if you want them to. Skiing trees is like playing a video game, it's that easy, and straightlines feel solid.

i have just finnished a week at tc on my line ep pros and these have a huge rocker, super soft, and i was slighty worried taking them on to a feild but they were unbelivable ,so much fun ,i thought they were great in powder but these rocker skis are great in chowder ,crud , i wouldnt bust out a GS in them but my advice is try a rocker ski before you diss them as they are the future.
